2007 Santaquin, UT Pumpkin Weigh Off

The Utah Pumpkin Growers association organizes each year several weigh offs around the state. I discovered it two years ago when they held it at Gardner's Village. The idea of having it at the South Ridge farm appealed to me for a weekend mini-trip and we where not disappointed. They grow apples, tart cherries and of course pumpkins. Santaquin is really small, more than small. We still got lost, even with GPS help. Lousy city folks. The pumpkins were pretty big this year, and the winner weighed in at 600lbs. It had lost some water according to the owner, having been picked several weeks ago. It still left the competition in the dust. The association holds classes every spring on how to grow an Atlantic giant. you can find dates and time on their web page.

A Beach Picnic

San_fran_vacation_041_3

We just came back from San Francisco where we visited with friends Stacey and Lars. The weather was quite remarkable, despite the strong winds on and off the beach. Highway 1 is just perfect for some nice motoring, especially when none of the cars are moving. The water was as cold as could be, but that did not stop the couple of intrepids in the picture above to 'frolic' in the waves, until we all were soaked though and through.

To dry up a bit, we climbed a small hill for a great view towards Half Moon Bay, on top of which Thomas took this nice belly picture, first of its kind.

20 weeks and already 20 pounds gained, a record surely. And yet the baby is only a mere 16 oz today. The ultrasound on our return to Salt Lake guaranteed us a boy, who is doing fine and kicking with all his might so far. I hope the pregnant brain settles down soon, because I have already misplaced my Ipod and car keys and can no longer afford to lose anything else, if this child is to have decent living quarters one day.

Would you join me?
