button for you here.
Karin and I would love to invite all interested quilters to join us in making a Coin Quilt this year. We felt that the "making it together" part would give us a good incentive to get a new big project started, one that we had been considering for a while. Although the quilts we have in mind will not look identical, they will be part of the Chinese Coin Quilts family. You can check some examples on the Flickr group.
Moda has a very simple tutorial for a baby size Coin Quilt here.
Karin's coins will be separated with solid fabric while mine will touch each other, take a look at her great sketch.
I will be getting most of my ideas from "Last minute patchwork and quilted gifts". Here is a scan from the book:
So if you like the idea, jump on board!

Birthing Quilt
Baby Blanket Set
Infant Bibs
Diaper Burp Cloths
Crochet Basket
Crumb Catcher
Key Wristlets
narrow hem
Fabric Pinwheels
placemats
pocket bag
Roller Coaster
Tree Skirt
What fun! A coin quilt's been on my list for some time, so this might just give me the motivation I need to get started! Thanks!

Oh those are beautiful! I've been thinking about starting a quilt, just don't know what kind yet. This doesn't look too complicated though.. thinking.. :)

Fantastic! I am part way through what I think of as a coin quilt, and this will be great motivation to see it through to finish!
Thanks heaps!

A coin quilt was on my list of things to do this year, it's nice to get to make it along with some other gals! :D

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I made one for my husband last year but I'd love some incentive to make more!

Hey! This is what I was trying to do with leftovers from my Eclipse Quilt. . . http://somethingcleveraboutnothing.blogspot.com/2008/12/cats-like-it.html
I stitched together a bunch of long strips of the leftover pieces and haven't been able to find a fabric that I like for inbetween yet. I'll have to take them into work and look for something now that I have a reason to finish it!

I was so excited when I saw this because I am currently working on a twin size one for my 10 year old daughter. I'm almost done with the quilt top and am comtemplating trying to quilt it myself. SCARY! (Obviously haven't done it before!) Here is a link to how my quilt is coming along. http://daffodilhilltoo.blogspot.com/2009/02/progress.html

I'm very inspired by both you and Karen. I have never made a quilt, but I feel like this might be a good one to start with. I really want one to add color into my bedroom and this is just the style I would like. Yay!
Thanks for the push!

Ths is a wonderful idea! I am very tempted to participate, although I have never made a singçle quilt in my life...

Funny, I've been thinking about this for my king sized quilt anyway, rather than the improv quilt. Or maybe it can serve both purposes! I'll do my best to join you.

How fun! (Now I need to search for my "chinese coins" scraps...) Those got packed away while I was getting ready for my babies arrival...

What a great idea. The coin quilt is on my project list for this year. Maybe if I hop on board it will motivate me to get it done.

I'm in. Let me go look at my stash and find the perfect selection.

Great idea and motivation. I made the Last Minute coin quilt last year and I love it. I cut the number of strips according the the directions and had more than enough to make another small Denyse Schmidt-style strip quilt afterwards.

Count me in! I love making coin quilts!

I love "stacked" coins. I'm not going to join as I've just finished two (2). Quilted them on the frame at the same time too. The "stacked" coins make wonderful quilts .... almost like I Spy quilts.
Good luck and happy sewing "stacked" coins.

Me too! I'm trying to find something I can do for my boys. Boyish charm packs are hard to come by.

Oh, yes, I'm in! I stocked up on charm packs a couple of years ago and have been stuck with what to do with them! Fantastic idea :)
